Job Description

Responsible for identification and elimination of waste in the production process so that quality, manufacturing flexibility and throughput along with operating costs are continually improved. Additionally the role will be responsible for the implementation of new equipment and processes to support the growth and improvement within fabrication and welding processes.

Leads UniCarriers Production Way objectives:

  • Identifies and leads elimination of waste throughout assigned operations.
  • Designs mistake proofing devices where required to control quality at the source.
  • Reduces changeover times by designing quick changeover devices and converting internal to external the work required to complete a changeover.
  • Applies economy of motion and time study techniques to create effective line balances.
  • Applies ergonomic principles to all new and changing operations to improve UCA safety performance.
  • Utilizes PDCA cycle to drive continuous improvement, thru Kaizen.
  • Documents processes in a clear and concise manner to create requirements for reliable and repeatable standard work considering SIPOC.
  • Utilizes process FMEA's and control plans as part of APQP to document risks, controls, actions taken and lessons learned to minimize identified risks.
  • Uses problem-solving techniques (8D) to determine root cause, countermeasures, permanent and preventative corrective actions.
  • Takes ownership of the fabrication and welding process quality and resolves existing quality issues related to the production processes, methods or equipment by using problem solving methodology.
  • Increases manufacturing effectiveness by installing capable processes and equipment and continues to improve their capability to produce quality parts at required output.
  • Reviews workstations and manual tasks to identify adverse ergonomic practices and installs improvements to achieve the reduction of fatigue, errors or unsafe acts.
  • Trains Manufacturing Supervisors and Lead employees in methods for setup, operation, and maintenance of new equipment and for performance of new manual operations.
  • Optimizes material flow through the entire manufacturing process.
  • Stays abreast of appropriate or emerging technologies and drives development and implementation of practices that help achieve UniCarriers Production Way objectives.
  • Completion of timely review, analyses and appropriate dispositions of all assigned Suggestions.
  • Always acts in a professional and courteous manner, representing UCA's highest standards of business conduct; exhibits a positive attitude, sharing information with co-workers as appropriate and works to promote a cooperative, productive teamwork environment.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of three years manufacturing engineering experience in a related industry preferably with fabrication, machining, painting and assembly processes. 
  • Position requires demonstrated effectiveness in continuous improvement and problem solving; workplace and process design; design for assembly; and statistical process control.
  • Minimum Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, SDRC or similar CAD proficiency.
