Job Description

Primary responsibility for driving cost reductions in support of corporate and global cost reduction goals. Sources, qualifies, analyses, and develops suppliers who consistently achieve best in world class performance in quality, delivery, and price and continually lead their industry in technology and value. Directs, and informs other Supplier Management personnel for all project related activities and needs. Creates time plans for actions and maintains all project time criteria. Provides leadership for cost savings activities and plans. Essential responsibilities include:

 

  • Responsible for the identification and implementation of cost reduction initiatives in support of corporate and global cost reduction goals.
  • Supports new product development through sourcing of new components ensuring part availability including but not limited to engineering and factory trials and start of production.
  • Maintains market knowledge of component suppliers to establish accurate target costs and cost variable curves. Establishes world-wide sourcing plans to identify benchmarking suppliers, and those with innovative processes and capabilities.
  • Develops a sourcing strategy for each assigned component, commodity, and related technology.  
  • Defines assigned industry Best Practices for quality systems, cost competitiveness, delivery performance, technology and tooling design and development.
  • Attains expert knowledge of the processes required to produce assigned components and understands the differences between suppliers and their resulting impact on quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Coordinates with related departments (Supplier Quality and Engineering) the supplier approval process (Sanki PSSC) ensuring qualification prior to Project Contract (for new models) and for all resourcing activity.
  • Visits key suppliers regularly to ensure an effective quality system is in place, to build relationships, for understanding of mutual concerns, for resolution of issues and for identification of areas needing improvement.
  • Quickly determines the root cause and appropriate countermeasures for supplier related problems and implements an effective and permanent corrective action including but not limited to invoices, quality, delivery and warranty matters.
  • Determines cost structure (labor, material and overhead) for assigned commodities and the variables impacting price breaks such as volume, packaging, and delivery schedules. Becomes an expert in the commodity knowledge.
  • Provides technical assistance to suppliers on new product programs, process capability improvements, quality system registration and cost reduction achievement.
  • Targets increased component standardization for new and existing forklift models through coordinated efforts with suppliers and NFC Design Engineering.
  • Always acts in a professional and courteous manner, representing NFC's highest standards of business conduct; exhibits a positive attitude, sharing information with co-workers as appropriate and works to promote a cooperative, productive teamwork environment.
  • Acts as Project Manager for cost reduction CFT projects, new model support, ECN support and other projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform complex analyses of the cost drivers within a commodity group.
  • Recommends and develops processes and procedures for enhanced operation of Supplier Management department.
  • Participates in or leads V-Fast cross-functional teams or similar cross-functional activities not including CFT projects.
  • Provides management support of goals achievement for Supplier Management function.
  • Demonstrates support of Nissan Way actions and mindsets and is a proven team player in support of NFC corporate objectives.Job Requirements

 

 Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of three years experience, preferably in a forklift or related industry including automotive or heavy industrial equipment manufacturing environment.
  • Must possess the ability to handle difficult and demanding situations and multiple priorities.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communications and negotiation skills, along with a demonstrated teamwork attitude.
  • Requires an understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Must be able to perform tasks in a team-based environment.
  • Must be able to lead multiple disciplinary teams.
  • APICS or CPM Certification desirable.
  • Minimum Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Access, AS/400, MAC-PAC.
